TCO Fly Tying Class: Saltwater Flats Flies with Bob Palmer
Planning a trip to the flats this year? We all love catching fish on flies we tie ourselves, so go prepared with your own handcrafted flies to make the trip even more meaningful. Our fly-tying class will help you master the techniques, ensuring you leave with the knowledge and experience required to tie productive flats patterns. Come with a basic knowledge of fly tying, and we’ll help make it more productive and enjoyable.

All tying materials will be provided for students to use but bring your favorite vise and tools.

We've carefully chosen a set of flats specific fly patterns that will help you understand a range of fundamental techniques that will easily transfer to other flies and styles.

You will learn about proportions so that the finished fly looks and acts appropriately on the water.

We will explore a variety of the materials that we stock in our fly shop, so that you become familiar with how they are used.

The class will include tips and tricks that will make the fly-tying process more enjoyable.

You will leave the class equipped with the fundamental skills needed to expand the craft.
Your instructor, Bob Palmer, has been with TCO since 2021 in the Bryn Mawr location and has experience fishing the flats and educating fellow anglers on the flies he loves to tie. He might even share a fish-tale or two on his Belize fishing experiences.
